This was one of my most slowest projects and I was hoping to finish it until May 25 – Youth Day (Tito’s official birthday).. And I did it! My new shirt dress was ready to wear..
While playing with hand dyed fabric, I noticed that placing of the colors reminds me of a flag.. Probably one of Yugoslav republics.. After checking, blue-white-red were flag colors of SFR Yugoslavia.. Really funny thing.. Like I’m a fan of communist post WWII Yugoslavia.. To that impression adds my pattern pick – shirt dress #108 from Burda 01/2011.. Now every time I put it on, I feel like I’m going to youth work actions..
I sewed the dress with two layers of fabric.. One was too sheer.. My change to the pattern is adding darts at front, as it is with the shirt #107 from the same Burda issue.. That way it looks neater when I put a waistband.. Without waistband, the dress doesn’t have a shape.. Especially for this dress I bought these cute stripped buttons, with almost matching color combo.. Also, I remembered that somewhere I have two color thread, white and blue, perfect for topstitching..
I was stuck with this project for months.. It’s good that I finished it, because it’s only when I sewed all parts together the dress started to look cute and wearable.. Now I really love how it turned out.. I’m ready for the next quest..
